When is a hospital bed needed?

A hospital bed is NOT for everyone. However, it certainly can help a great number of people. According to most major insurance companies a hospital bed is deemed necessary when: recovering from surgery, severe arthritis, fractured hip, severe cardiac conditions, spinal cord injuries, and many more conditions.

You may simply be needing an adjustable bed height to transfer to your wheelchair, walker, or other mobility device. You do not have to have a major medical condition to need a hospital bed. They can help those who simply need a little ergonomic help.

Safety! It can be used to reduce fall risks. Especially in elderly with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Not realizing they cannot walk to the bathroom on their own can be a caregiver’s worst nightmare. Having the bed rails gives the caregiver or family member time to get to them to help them without the risk of falling.

Why is Invacare the best hospital bed brand?

Invacare is known for their accommodation to home health needs specifically. They have wonderful customer service and make extremely high quality products. They have even sold these beds to nursing home facilities! Check out the low prices now on Amazon if you click here.

What are all the benefits of this hospital bed?

This bed is sturdy! It only weighs 178 pounds but it has a weight capacity of 350 pounds. The frame is sound and the bed rails make it reinforced.

Also, it’s easy to assemble. That is a great benefit because a lot of people end up having to put these things together themselves. Other hospital beds can be a real pain to put together. This one is fairly simple.

It fits most elderly and disabled being 36” wide and 88” long. The full-length side rails are removable if this is too narrow. However, I would suggest getting a different bed if 36” wide is too small! The height off the ground is great for elderly getting in and out of bed.

It is a fully electric bed. What that really means is no more cranking away and tiring your poor shoulders out to raise and lower the bed! It also rolls around nicely and the brakes are easy to use.

It’s actually comfortable! It boasts a deluxe innerspring mattress. However, there are ways to enhance this bed. See below!

Extras to make the best experience possible

Want to make this bed even more fabulous? There are a variety of accessories that can really make this bed even better. I would recommend getting fitted hospital sheets specifically. That way the sheets aren’t loose. Tip: loose sheets can increase risks of skin tears and bed sores! You can buy sheets on Amazon that fit this bed if you click here.

I would also recommend getting the accompanying table. It is REALLY hard to find tables or nightstands that work with hospital beds. Just trust me on this one. You can buy the accompanying table on Amazon if you click here.

If there is a concern about pressure sores, I would highly recommend getting the Drive Medical Med Aire Alternating Pressure Pump and Pad System. It will significantly reduce your chances of getting bed sores. It will also add another layer of comfort. Take a look at the pressure pump and pad system on Amazon by clicking here.

What the manufacturer may not tell you

The manufacturer does not bring up a key point and major concern of many who would purchase this bed- pressure sores. It does not have a pressure reducing mattress. However, like I said earlier, you can buy it!

This bed is not as attractive as some may want. Now that may seem silly to most of you. I promise you there is someone reading this that style may be a huge component in purchasing!

Who is it for?

Specifically, the Invacare Homecare Full Electric Hospital Bed is for those who need care in the home. The product is for the group of people wanting to remain comfortable in their home and prolong or nicks going to a facility altogether.

It’s ease of use is helpful for those who have a spouse as a caregiver. Replacing your actual bed with this bed will reduce back stress and make it easier to care for them. That may seem like a small win now, but down the line it is going to be a huge contributing thought.

Why buy instead of renting? It’s MUCH more expensive to rent a bed than buy one. That being said, I think this would be a great bed for home health care companies to invest in! You can buy it now on Amazon by clicking here.

Who isn’t it for?

Really, this bed can be for anyone that is under 350 lbs. However, it might not be necessary for everyone. It’s convenient to have a bed that raises and lowers to alleviate aches and pains, however you could simply get a better mattress or even a mattress from furniture stores that raise and lower if you do not medically need this.

If a doctor does not deem it medically necessary, you may not be able to get financial assistance from insurance companies or Medicare/Medicaid.

 The Verdict

The Invacare Homecare Full Electric Hospital Bed is the right product for you if you are needing a hospital bed. We covered why you or someone else may need a hospital bed earlier. I really believe this is yet again another way to stay comfortable in your own home. Take control of your life! Help mom or dad out. Buy this hospital bed to make life just that much easier.
