SoClean 2 CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizing Machine with ResMed AirSense 10 Adapter

This is my favorite CPAP supply on the market. It’s something that I think everyone that uses a CPAP, Bi-PAP, VPAP, or BPAP will really appreciate. The SoClean 2 CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizing Machine does just what it says on the box–cleans and sanitizes. Let’s walk through what I love about this awesome CPAP supply.

Pros

  • No Chemicals
    • Breathing in chemicals = bad news
  • Destroys 99.9% of CPAP Bacteria, Viruses, and Mold
    • Top of the line cleaning
  • Easy To Use
    • Simple and straightforward directions
  • ResMed AirSense 10 Adapter
    • Making it more accessible for more machines
  • Don’t Have To Take Machine Apart
    • Less time and energy on your part

Okay, to start off, anytime you can go chemical free, I’m 100% in. There are so many toxins and chemicals in our environment already. You definitely don’t need to be breathing them in your CPAP mask. The fact that the SOCLEAN 2 boasts using no chemicals has me sold.

Think of all the bacteria in your mouth. There’s a reason we brush our teeth at least twice per day. At least I hope everyone reading this does! Eliminating 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, and mold is outstanding. I would especially use this machine when you are ill so you don’t continue to breathe in those nasty germs.

Nobody wants to use a CPAP cleaning machine that takes more time, energy, and frustration than cleaning it by hand. Luckily with the SOCLEAN 2, you don’t have to worry. It’s straightforward and easy to use.

Considering that I’m a big fan of the ResMed AirSense 10, I would say the SOCLEAN 2 has done it again. They have an adapter to clean that CPAP mask as well! You can check out my take on the ResMed AirSense 10 here.

Not having to take the machine apart after using it is a huge bonus in my eyes. Like I mentioned before, it wouldn’t make sense to buy this if it turned out to be more work than just washing it by hand. SOCLEAN 2 has made it possible to clean your CPAP or BiPAP mask with ease.

Cons

  • Customer Service Issues
    • Not a good sign, but has possibility to improve
  • Pump Inconsistencies
    • Complaints of working on and off
  • Distinct Smell
    • Not necessarily bad, but still there

Customer service is one of those things that you always want to be superior. The SOCLEAN 2 has had multiple complaints of terrible customer service. While I sympathize and despise poor customer service as much as the next fellow, I do have some opinions on this.

Everyone has a different definition of customer service. I think that “the customer is always right” may have gone out the window with most companies. On the same hand, you are probably angry when you call and very impatient with the service representative. That is just a recipe for disaster.

The SOCLEAN 2 has little issues so I doubt you will even have to deal with customer service. However, if you do, you have been warned they may not help you the way you want or deserve to be helped. It’s worth mentioning.

The pump inconsistencies are an issue. In layman’s terms, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I think that is something that this company is probably working on fixing, but I had to let you know before buying. It’s also worth noting that this could be user induced. Read your manual before use to avoid such conflicts!

Alright, I hear you loud and clear on the distinct smell issue. That’s something I wouldn’t be able to get over either. However, I do think that when you are going chemical free but still cleaning 99.9% of germs, you may just want to deal with the smell.

The Verdict

Overall, I think this is the #1 CPAP or BiPAP accessory. You don’t have to clean your mask manually and it’s practically sterile. It’s easy to use with relatively small complaints. I think this is a staple and must buy if you are using a CPAP or BiPAP mask.

SoClean 2 Go Travel CPAP Equipment Cleaner

If you didn’t get sick of me talking about the SoClean 2, you will now! Another must have in my mind is the SoClean 2 Go Travel CPAP Equipment Cleaner! It has everything you need to clean your gear on the go. If you like to travel, this product is definitely for you.

Pros

  • Travel Friendly
    • Cut down on luggage
  • No Chemicals
    • Breathing in chemicals = bad news
  • Destroys 99.9% of CPAP Bacteria, Viruses, and Mold
    • Top of the line cleaning
  • Easy To Use
    • Simple and straightforward directions
  • Don’t Have To Take Machine Apart
    • Less time and energy on your part

The biggest advantage of having this machine with you while traveling, is cutting down on time and increasing convenience. It really is going to make traveling with a CPAP or BiPAP so much easier. You don’t have to waste your precious time on cleaning all of your gear.

Like it’s home base version, it’s chemical free. That has so many advantages I hardly no where to start. Basically, chemicals are bad and that means the SoClean 2 Travel is good.

Destroying 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, and mold is amazing for the home base version. When you consider this in the travel version, I think it’s even more exciting. What if you end up with a cold or bug along the way? This thing is going to wipe out all of that in your gear so you can get over it faster. It’s also safe to say you are going to encounter a LOT of people with lots of germs along your journey.

Easy to set up and use. You don’t have to break it down. Just use it and be on your way! I think this plays heavily into saving time on your trip.

Cons

  • Extra Luggage
    • Still have to pack an extra machine
  • Customer Service Issues
    • Not a good sign, but has possibility to improve
  • Pump Inconsistencies
    • Complaints of working on and off
  • Distinct Smell
    • Not necessarily bad, but still there

The fact of the matter is, you still do have to pack an extra machine, which means extra luggage. You have to ask yourself if having this little number is going to improve or decline your mood on your trip. That’s really a personal preference.

Again, the customer service issue does not make me happy. On the other hand, you are probably  not going to be able to do much about it on your travels anyways. Carpe diem?

The pump inconsistencies do worry me. I think that SoClean 2 Travel system has less issues than the home base in this category. However, that could be to less use.

The smell could bother you on your trip. I didn’t see as many complaints on the travel system for smell though. So there’s something!

The Verdict

The SoClean 2 Go Travel is such an amazing product. If I had to choose between hauling around another bag or going without it, I’d choose an extra bag. It’s good exercise, right?

Contour Products CPAPMax Adjustable Memory Foam Pillow

You may not THINK you need a special pillow when using a CPAP but you are SO wrong. The Contour Products CPAPMax Adjustable Memory Foam Pillow is one of the best CPAP pillows out there for several reasons. Let’s dive right in to see why.

Pros

  • 2 Different Sides
    • Memory Foam or Traditional
  • Concave Center
    • Ergonomically support your head/neck
  • Neutralizes Odor
    • Charcoal insert to maintain freshness
  • Adjustable
    • Fits your body type
  • Hose Tether
    • Keep the hose out of the way so you can sleep!

Having two completely different sides to a pillow is almost unheard of. You know how you flip your pillow almost constantly at home to regain support? The Contour Products CPAPMax Adjustable Memory Foam Pillow  eliminates that need.

One side is memory foam with a cooling mesh. This allows a cushy feel while still being supportive. As a bonus it’s nice and cool! On the other side is a plush fiberfill. Whatever your pillow type is, the CPAPMax Pillow has you covered.

A concave center allows for an ergonomic approach at sleep. This will help clear your airway to get more air in and help with your sleep apnea issues. It will also help your neck or back issues that you have probably developed from having sleep apnea or using a CPAP/BiPAP mask.

Let’s face it. Usually using a sleep aid mask is messy. It can cause odors in your pillow. This pillow has a charcoal insert to eliminate odors and keep it fresh smelling. Just another positive reason to get this pillow!

Here’s one of my favorite reasons to buy the CPAPMax Adjustable Memory Foam Pillow. It is adjustable! What kind of pillow is adjustable? Not many. This pillow allows you to add or subtract layers depending on your shoulder height so that it is tailored to your body. Goodbye neck pain!

A hose tether is something that you absolutely want when using a CPAP or BiPAP. It will keep you from getting tangled up and allow you to side sleep if needed. This pillow has a built in hose tether! That way you can sleep on you side all night long if that’s what you want.

In addition to all of these positives, I think it does really well with whatever type of mask you have. You can read more about CPAP masks and my recommendations here.

Cons

  • Not Extremely Firm
    • Memory foam side too soft

That’s it. That is the only negative I could find on the CPAPMax Adjustable Memory Foam Pillow. Let’s talk about this complaint a little bit. If the memory foam side is too soft for you, I would try the plush side! Also, maybe you need to add a couple of layers to the pillow if it’s not giving you the support you need. There are a lot of red flags with this complaint that tell me it isn’t all that warranted.

The Verdict

The Contour Products CPAPMax Adjustable Memory Foam Pillow is the best choice in pillows for sleep apnea patients. You can get the support you need without sacrificing comfort, cleanliness, or ergonomics.

Eliminate Tangles CPAP Hose Holder

Have you ever had that nightmare where you get all tangled up and can’t get out? I bet you have if you suffer from sleep apnea. It’s frustrating and inconvenient to be connected to a tube while you sleep. However, a CPAP hose holder is a great way to free you from that nightmare!

Pros

  • Tangle Free
    • No more getting snagged
  • Easy Set Up
    • Quick and efficient
  • Better Sleep
    • Don’t get caught in your tubing
  • Compact
    • Perfect for travel

Tangle free is the most obvious reason to purchase the Eliminates Tangles CPAP Hose Holder. You don’t have to get all tangled up if you toss and turn in the night. One less reason to skip using your CPAP.

Just pull it out of the box and a few seconds later you are ready to roll. This handy little piece of equipment is easy to use and set up really fast.

You are going to get better sleep using the CPAP hose holder, plain and simple. Without the worry of getting strangled and the constant waking up and untangling, you will sleep like a baby.

As a bonus, it’s compact so you don’t have to sleep terribly when you travel. It can go with you in your luggage and be there with you when you sleep. Never suffer another night without one!

Cons

  • Smaller Base
    • Comes out from mattress
  • Loose Joints
    • Can come apart
  • Not Pliable
    • Not able to bend as well as you would like

Having a larger base would allow for more stability. The smaller base makes it a little tipsy and can pull on the hose if not set up well. You will have to be the judge on the set up you have in mind.

Loose joints are something that I find annoying but not unacceptable. There would be a complaint if they were too rigid as well. I think that adding some type of glue would help this situation. However, it is, as I stated previously, rather annoying.

Pliability is something you don’t want too much of in a stand but it should be pliable enough to bend a bit. This hose holder seems to have issues with being too rigid.

There’s no doubt about it, having low cost CPAP supplies will have a few drawbacks. Luckily, I didn’t see anything major that would prevent me from buying this hose holder.

The Verdict

The Eliminate Tangles CPAP Hose Holder is a great investment to allow for tangle free nights. It’s going to get you better sleep the first night of use. I would think that you couldn’t use a CPAP or BiPAP without one!

10 Pack Bundle HDM Heat/Moisture Exchanger (HME) Inline Humidification Solution Unit for CPAP Masks

We all know that using a CPAP or BiPAP mask can leave you with a dry mouth and an irritating aftertaste. Instead of just accepting that, you can use HDM Heat/Moisture Exchanger. They come in a convenient 10 pack bundle so you don’t have to make multiple purchases over and over.

Pros

  • Increase Humidity
    • Eliminate dry mouth
  • Buying in Bulk
    • Stop making multiple purchases
  • Increase Air Warmth
    • Perfect for the cold months

So, to state the obvious, the HDM HME’s increase humidity in the air you breathe in through your mask. This helps with dry mouth and coughing. I would bet that this could be life changing for a lot of mask users out there.

Buying in bulk is one of my favorite ways to buy. While it feels like a big purchase up front, you don’t have to make multiple purchases. This allows for you to use 10 whole HME’s before having to make another purchase. The benefit is less risk of ending up empty handed or spending a night without one.

Increasing air warmth is for all you cold weather folk out there. I know up in the North it gets pretty darn cold and breathing in some nice warm air is just the ticket to a good night’s sleep. This is especially true if you aren’t able to get away to sunny climes in the winter.

Cons

  • Pricey
    • Buying in bulk = upfront cost
  • Slight Decrease in Airflow
    • Serious consideration

Buying in bulk does mean more of an upfront cost. However, you do save money in the long run by not paying for shipping multiple times. I also think the convenience of having multiple HME’s on hand is huge.

This one is a little bit more serious. A slight decrease in airflow no matter how small is something that needs to be taken into consideration. While this hasn’t been a complaint across the board, there are a few that have brought it up. That’s a few too many if you ask me. However, if you are suffering from some serious dryness issues, it might till be worth a shot.

The Verdict

The HDM HME’s are a great investment. I love the bulk packaging so you don’t have to worry about running out. The HME’s are excellent for curing that intolerable dry mouth so you can get back to just sleeping.

Aquapap Vapor Distilled Water Case of 24 x 12 oz bottles and 1 x Hydrophobic Bacteria Filter

The Aquapap Vapor Distilled Water is a superior water made just for CPAP or BiPAP machines. I think that using a bottled ready to go water is much better than chancing something you buy in the store that may or may not be the quality you want or need. Plus, it comes with a Hydrophobic Bacteria Filter!

Pros

  • Tailor Made CPAP Water
    • No guess work for you
  • Bulk Purchase
    • Eliminate multiple purchases
  • Hydrophobic Bacteria Filter
    • Can never be too careful
  • Convenience
    • Have lots of bottles on hand

Having tailor made CPAP water in bottles is not only convenient but it gives you peace of mind. It allows for you to just put the water in and go. No more guess work for you. Keep your expensive CPAP machine in pristine condition.

Again, bulk purchasing is my jam. It’s just so much better for you in the long run. I like the idea of having lots of CPAP water on hand so you don’t have to make a late night run to the store.

The hydrophobic bacteria filter is just an added bonus. You can really never be too careful with bacteria in your CPAP equipment. Having an extra filter on hand can never ever be a bad thing.

Cons

  • Buying in Bulk
    • Large package
  • Expensive
    • More costly water

While I’m all about buying in bulk, I can see some drawbacks. If you are elderly or weak at all, having a big heavy package could be troublesome. I would want to have someone handle that for them or perhaps order in smaller quantity.

The cost of this tailor made water is rather high. I think that it’s a matter of what you are getting though. If you are buying just distilled water, you can’t really be sure how great it is. This bottled water is carefully made and measured to be the right amount.

The Verdict

Buying a case of the Aquapap Vapor Distilled Water is a win-win. Once again, convenience is huge here. Think of all the time you will save having all of this CPAP water on hand. I absolutely hate last minute unnecessary trips to the store, and my bet is you do too.

Patient Sleep Supplies CPAP Mask Wipes (Lite Citrus) – 3 packs of 62 wipes

CPAP mask wipes are an absolute must. I love the fact that they come in this convenient package and smell like citrus. It’s a refreshing feeling knowing you have a nice clean mask and have a nice LITE fragrance of citrus. There are a lot of positives to these wipes and hardly any negatives, but let’s cover them anyways.

Pros

  • Convenient
    • Easy and fast cleaning
  • Clean Mask
    • = Happy you
  • Lite Citrus Fragrance
    • Not strongly fragranced
  • Buying in Bulk
    • Save $$$

Convenience is something that I will always rate highly, especially for the elderly or ill. Having wipes ready to go, next to your bed, that takes you about 15 seconds, is HUGE. I love how easy these are and encourages you to keep your mask clean.

A clean mask is a happy mask. Keeping your mask clean is the #1 rule in CPAP or BiPAP maintenance. A mask that is clean is going to last you longer, saving you money in the long run.

The citrus scent isn’t STRONG. Some people may think that a citrus scent reminds them of cleaning solutions. While I agree, I think that the fragrance is subtle and refreshing.

I’m a broken record, I know. Buying in bulk is the way to go! Getting the 3 pack is actually cheaper per container than buying them individually. It seems like an upfront cost until you hear that, doesn’t it?

Cons

  • Lacking Liquid
    • Dryer wipe
  • Scent Preferences
    • Citrus is not for everyone
  • Wipe Material
    • Not super thick

There have been complaints that these wipes don’t have enough liquid to them. I think that’s a valid point, but I hate the wipes that have too MUCH liquid in them. I think this is a little bit reference, and a little bit complaint.

Scent preferences are a finicky issue. There are some people that thing the citrus scent is undesirable. I can definitely see that if you don’t like citrus or have an incredible sense of smell. If that’s the case, I would go with an unscented wipe.

The wipe material has been said to be thin. I think that being thin is an issue because you don’t want the wipe to fall apart on you. You want a sturdy wipe so you don’t have to use more than one. However, the cost is pretty decent so it’s up to you.

The Verdict

The Patient Sleep Supplies CPAP mask wipes are a winner in my book. I like the fresh citrus scent and ability to buy bulk. The convenience factor seals the deal.

Q & A

What are CPAP supplies?

CPAP supplies are anything that aids your CPAP mask and machine to make a better experience for you. They range from specialty water to sanitation with pillows in between. CPAP supplies can make your CPAP experience better so you can sleep better.

Which CPAP supplies do I need?

There are a few things you HAVE to have, and there are a few things that you will really want. The CPAP water is crucial. You cannot use tap water. I really like the sanitizing group of products because it prolongs your CPAP mask’s life. I also think that a CPAP pillow can make you sleep a lot more comfortably.

Are CPAP supplies tax deductible?

Yes! However, there are some limitations to this. According to www.intuit.com CPAP supplies are tax deductible, “Yes,that would be a deductible medical expense. Medical expenses are onlydeductible if you itemize deductions, and are only deductible in the year paid. If you do itemize, only the portion of your total medical expenses that exceed 10% of your adjusted gross income are deductible.”

Does insurance cover CPAP supplies?

That’s a tricky question. The not very solid answer is yes. However, every insurance company and policy is different. It’s best to contact your insurance company and discuss with them. It is technically medical equipment. However, they may only cover some supplies vs. all supplies.

Does Medicare cover CPAP supplies?

Another question that doesn’t have an exact answer. The answer is yes, if your doctor deems it medically necessary. So, a CPAP machine is covered for 3 months as a therapy unless your doctor prescribes it for a longer period. Then, any medical equipment you may need, should be covered by Medicare. It’s a sticky situation when you are dealing with Medicare. I would highly recommend visiting with your physician about this at your visit.

Where to buy CPAP supplies?

There are numerous places to buy CPAP supplies. Amazon is my favorite, big surprise there, again. I like that they have a lot of varieties and ship to you for free and quickly. You can always check your local medical supply store too, but I bet they are more expensive and you can’t order in your pajamas.

The Verdict

While all of these CPAP supplies aren’t necessary, they will make your life with your CPAP so much better. Like mentioned previously, the SoClean 2 CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizing Machine really is a godsend. Whether you go with that or the CPAPMax Adjustable Memory Foam Pillow, you are going to be happier with your new (or worn in) CPAP mask lifestyle. Sweet dreams!
